Current research interests- development of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents for dopamine transporter imaging – a marker for several neurological diseases (e.g. Parkinson disease). The work involves design and synthesis of tropane-based chelators of gadolinium (III) ions, their evaluation as T1 relaxivity agents, and ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. The end goal is to develop compounds that can enhance the contrast of regions of the brain containing dopamine transporter by MRI. - development of trehalose-based gene and drug delivery vectors aimed to be stable toward aggregation in serum and blood and have high specificity for targeted cells.
